#TeenVogueSummit Meetup

Last month I happened to be scrolling down my Instagram feed when I saw one of my sheroes, Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Elaine Welteroth, post a video about the new Teen Vogue Summit in LA this December. After watching Elaine talk about how amazing the Summit is going to be, I immediately clicked the link in her bio to check out the cost of the tickets. Now, as a two-time Teen Vogue Fashion University alumna, I don't know why I was surprised to see that the Summit is pretty pricy, but I let out a little gasp anyway for dramatic effect.

#EvieTakesNOLA

I turned 24 on July 1. As I stated in my last post, I usually host a birthday dinner with my friends to celebrate me turning a year older. But this year I wanted to switch things up. Not only did I have afternoon tea with my girls to celebrate my big day, but I also took a trip to New Orleans for the Essence Festival with one of my besties, Bailey.

In Case You Were Wondering

I've been working for the City of Detroit for about four months now, and I still get the question from friends and family about what exactly it is that I do.

I Need More Time

There is not enough time in the day – or so it seems. Lately I've been feeling like I can't possibly accomplish everything I want in a mere 24 hours. Talk about impossible!

I'm sure there's a lot of you busy bees out there that feel the same way as me. But I have a sad revelation for y'all (read: us): what if we're just really bad at managing our time?

How Many of Us Have Them?

Since I don't have sisters, I cherish my girlfriends like we came from the same womb. I know that I can confide in them, laugh with them, share my deepest secrets with them, and vice versa. I've learned so much about myself from them. They have taught me that just like with family, a friend's love should be unconditional. They've allowed me to open my mind to different perspectives and opinions, taught me about careers, life, love, and all that good stuff. And they're all still teaching me things to this day! Our bond is pretty tight. We're shutting down the idea that good girlfriends are hard to come by.

Movin' On Up

I really think I'm the queen of switching jobs. In 2016 alone, I worked for four different companies. Which means I had four separate W-2 forms sent to my house. Why, Lawd?

Now, I'm sure you're thinking, "You loved your new job, why are you leaving?" And you are correct...I did love working for Warby Parker, and I encourage anyone in the customer service or optical industry to consider them if you're looking for a new place to work, but I truly felt that this was my time to make some big things happen for myself.

In With the Old

Today I had the pleasure of attending the Fashion Group International of Detroit, Inc. tribute luncheon with Shannon Lazovski of Glamorous Moms & Detroit Fashion News. I was excited to be able to be in a room full of stylish & notable people from all over the Metro Detroit area.

Alright, now let's talk about the outfit. I knew that there were going to be some important people at the luncheon today, so I had to make sure I looked just as good as I knew they were going to. After tearing up my room trying to find something nice to wear, and wishing I had the time (and money) to buy a whole new wardrobe, I finally decided on taupe jogger-style pants, a gray top, a blush cropped blazer, and black pointed-toe heels.

What I've Been Up To

I know I've been gone for a while, but I've been doing some pretty cool things in the process. From January to April, I was working as the intern for Michigan Fashion Week's first Fashion Summit which was held on April 16th at the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education. I was responsible for keeping the Michigan Fashion Week Twitter account updated, and helping out with other promotional tasks.

Today has been pretty interesting, and it's not even halfway over yet!

I had my interview at Willys earlier this afternoon. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to work both there & at my current job, so I'm just going to stay where I'm at. I'm still waiting to hear back from some other places, though, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

For the interview, I decided on a taupe colored dress and a printed poncho sweater from H&M. Thank God I still had money left on my H&M gift card from Christmas, or else I would've had to leave this baby on the rack. The necklace is my Mom's. Her jewelry game is SO much better than mine, and it just so happened that this one matched perfectly with my outfit.
