So Far, So Good

I've been a government employee for a week now! Lol. A lot of you have been asking me how the new job is going so far, and I would like to start off by saying, thanks for asking! Everything is going pretty well. I know it's only been a week, but I like this new gig quite a bit already. I mean, I no longer have to pay for parking, so how could it get any better?!

This week, I met the members of the media services and communications teams and found out where I'll be sitting. I'm trying my best to remember everyone's name, but I'm definitely going to need some refreshers, haha.

On Valentine's Day, some of my team members and I were trying to figure out how we could engage with our social media followers. We decided to come up with the hashtag #DetroitLoveLetter, to encourage city residents and businesses to profess their love for Detroit. We posted this tweet on the city's Twitter page in the "roses are red, violets are blue" format, and soon enough, local business owners, companies, residents and Detroit aficionados joined in on the fun, too.

Here were some of my favorites from that day:

It was awesome to see our hashtag become the No. 2 trending topic for that day. (we would've been first, but the #BeOurGuest hashtag for the new Beauty and the Beast movie was being promoted, so there's that...but technically we were No. 1 organically!) Since it was such a popular trending topic for the day, a few news sites wrote articles about it, including Crain's Detroit Business, the Detroit Free Press, MLive and Deadline Detroit.

That moment was just reassurance for me that I belong in this position. Of course I had first day jitters, but I think they're beginning to go away.

I'm excited to see what other creative content the team and I will come up with in the future! The rest of the week was filled with scheduling posts to Twitter and Facebook, going to a few career fairs, and really just getting acclimated to the company's culture.

This upcoming week is going to be super busy with the things we have planned, but I'm ready for it! Thanks again to everyone who told me congratulations! I appreciate all of the well wishes and support.

I'll be sure to post updates on the cool stuff I'm doing!
